This work depicting the poet of the Romantic Movement Victor Hugo, was commissioned in 1889 and represents the poet in a contemplative pose. Victor Hugo is considered to be one of the best-known French writers and has abundantly written in a variety of genres: from lyrics, diaries, epics, letters to philosophical poems. The statue originally planned to be erected outside the Panthéon, it was then judged to be to confused and placed in the gardens of the Palais Royal.
