Moon Relief Map

Moon Relief Map

thingiverse

This is a partial relief map of the surface of the moon as extrapolated from data from the Clementine spacecraftx Instructions Using height data available from various sources I generated a relief map of the dark side of the Moon, then sliced it into 66 sections, each about 128,000 square km. Then I turned those gray-scale height maps into 3D plates using the excellent HeightmapToSTL tool. So far I've only printed 9 of the tiles. They look really good when placed edge to edge, but I want to redo the height map with more detail and make 256 tiles with much higher contrast and donate it all as an installation to the Challenger Learning Center. The problem would be the amount of time it takes to print each plate...:-)
