5 October 2019

V.3.5 - as most of the printed parts are replaced, I have added this as a separate listing; https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3889891

25 September 2019

V.3.1b

I currently have two V3 machines. The first (v3.1a) is configured with the four wheel, three path setup, while the second (v3.1b) is configured with an MGN-9 rail, and 2 small wheels on one path. I'm doing comparative tests to determine the effectiveness of either design. The MGN-9 attachment block is uploaded as the v-wheel-top-clamp-rails.stl file.

I'll be updating the v3.1a design to remove the requirement for extrusions where carriages are not used, and introducing tighter belt placement, improved endstop positions and a new cooling fan shortly.

16 September 2019

V.3.1

Between January & September, I've had two of these printers operational to a useful degree, albeit with some quality issues related to the effector carriage. A 2020 extrusion, with a direct drive extruder and only 3 wheels was not secure enough. The effector could twist or rotate around the extrusion slightly, resulting in a very particular issue with print quality on sharp corners.

Eventually, I produced the four wheel, three slot design as somewhat of a hail mary, to fix this issue, and it worked.

27 Jan 2019

This is a functional prototype printer. I'm still working through some minor teething problems with the leadscrews, and have not continued with any development on the printed extruder. At present I am using a Titan Aero for the sake of simplicity.

Print results have been excellent.

4 Oct 2018

This is a proposal for a third printer, with the following changes and improvements over the M-Bot V.2:

A geared extruder with a hot end mount in the centerline of the effector / Nema motor.

Extrusion lengths that can be ordered pre-cut.

Reduced total extrusion weight; critically on the X axis.

Reduced total cost.

Reduced print time for printed components.

Simplified calculations and complete BOMs for various build volumes.

The files presently uploaded are printed, but untested. They consist of corner pieces for the main belt and motor assembly, with m3 holes for the linear rail carriages to be drilled when those carriages arrive.

The effector carriage can either be mounted using a V-wheel, or an MGN-9 rail.
Category: 3D Printers
