Control cable maintenance for your motorcycle is important and without a purpose built tool it's a real pain to do. Being a maker I decided to design a tool that would allow me to seal off the control cable at one end but allow me to attach aerosol lubricant to that end to force lubricant down the control cable.

Design is 4 parts:

*Cable Luber Bottom.stl - Base that slides over control cable and accepts the grommet *Cable Luber Top.stl - The top that screws into the base and accepts the aerosol can *Cable Luber Bottom Insert.stl - The grommet to fit around the control cable and create a seal *Cable Luber Top Insert.stl - Another grommet that goes in the top and produces a good seal with the aerosol can Top and bottom were printed in PLA while the two inserts are printed in TPU. @pashworth6 has kindly provided various insert sizes here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4493852

Tested on my Honda Africa Twin clutch cable. Mileage may vary on the bottom flexible grommet, control cables are different thicknesses. If you're not getting a good seal use some electricians tape or a piece of latex glove to improve the seal.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

i3 MK3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

15%

Filament:
[

CCTREE PLA ](http://www.amazon.com/s?url=search-alias&field-keywords=CCTREE+PLA&tag=thingiverse09-20) Red

Notes:

Both the TPU and PLA were printed with default settings at 15% infill.

Post-Printing

Assembly

Fairly straight forward - I glued the top insert into the top piece with some CA glue.
To use:

Remove control cable from control

Slide bottom piece over control cable

Fit bottom grommet over control cable - making sure its a tight fit

Slide bottom up over grommet and screw top over - nice and tight but dont use any tools, hand tight.

Insert the aerosol lubricant straw into the top grommet

Attach aerosol lubricant to the straw

Apply lubricant in bursts, making sure lubricant comes out the other end - wait for pressure to dissipate before removing straw or can, it may take some time for the aerosol pressure in the cable to dissipate. Failing this the lubricant will come spraying out the wrong end.

Category: Automotive
