Motorcycle Lift Analysis

This was a group final project for a mechanical engineering Analysis for Design class. Groups were required to choose a product and perform finite element analysis on it. We choose a motorcycle lift, designed it to the official dimensions that we found and analyzed its lifting capabilities using solidwork's FEA tools. Our final results show that the Motorcycle lift had a very low factor of safety on its suggested maximum load capacity. We found that the maximum stress on the arms at max load was very close to the yield strength of the metal. This was somewhat verified by a customer review that said the lifting arms bent a lot for a 900lbs bike, and that he believes the lift was not meant for even a bike of that size.
