Concussions are classified as “mild” brain injuries and can lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) if a person suffers consecutive concussions. In recent years, there has been an increase in repetitive head impacts and multiple concussions in athletes, mainly because coaches and competitors are not well equipped to distinguish when a concussion occurs. Thus, the Mouth Guard 9000 was created to notify coaches and athletes themselves if they have suffered a concussion, so that these players are not put back into a game to suffer a second head trauma.
