A rubberband is used to compensate for any unevenness in the underlying surface, ensuring a smooth and even cut every time. I've personally tested this holder and it works flawlessly. With this addon, you can simply place a wooden plate beneath the foil and forget about leveling issues - the holder takes care of everything. Keep in mind that printer tolerances may vary, so the hole might not fit perfectly for everyone, as it was designed to accommodate the knife's movement up and down.
