I upgraded my smoothieboard conversion with a higher torque nema 17 motor and noticed it started running hot. To keep the motor cool, I installed a custom fan mount to blow air directly onto the motor. Typically, excessive heat is caused by high amperage draw, but even when I reduced the amp settings below the motor's rated capacity in the config file, it still got too warm for my comfort level. Infill density is up to personal preference, but a minimum of 25% should provide sufficient strength. I opted for a compact 40 x 20mm fan to keep the motor at a safe operating temperature.
