I created the model in Blender using digital elavation data from Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) which provides this awesome data free of charge: https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/51768-nz-8m-digital-elevation-model-2012 It's very easy to 3D print - layer height is up to you - small layer height is nice for detail but a large layer height can also make the end result have emphasised contours.
