Muhammad Ali (The CHAMP), a handrail clamp designed to be printed as 2 parts: a clamp and a lock nut. The above drawings and images demonstrate the functionality, strength, and feasibility of the clamp printed in ABS according to the provided design criteria. Outlined below are features of the Muhammad Ali prototype: Functionality - easy installation and removal from extrusion - familiar L-track interface securely holds L-track stud - lock nut can be secured to clamp for storage (as shown in first image) Strength - supports +130lbs in all axis - grips the extrusion from all sides without slipping or rotation - a video demonstration of load condition D: http://goo.gl/s2gTUp Feasibility - no support material required - no assembly required - designed for 3D printing - clamp and lock nut assembly completed with only 2 prints - clamp and lock nut assembly approximate material usage of 60g ABS (60% infill, 3 perimeters) A note on strength: The above strength demonstrations were conducted using a clamp and lock nut printed at 60% infill and 3 perimeters. These parameters allow the clamp to support a load of +130 lbs in all possible orientations. It is reasonable to assume if the entire clamp and lock nut assembly was printed at 100% infill it will support a larger load.
