This gearbox was designed to drive a labeling machine. The part to be labeled was transported using upper and lower sponge rollers. Part transport needed to be positive and synchronized yet protected from occasional overload. This light duty gearbox provides multiple output shafts. Some shafts turn in the opposite direction. The gearbelt input pulley has an integrated slip clutch designed to provide 0 to 110 oz-in torque. It is designed for grease lubrication and uses readily available off the shelf components. Gears are helical for quiet operation. All machining is simple 2.5D and could be done using a manual knee mill and a manual lathe.Of special note is the way the gears are modeled. The individual teeth are not modeled. Rather, a revolved cavity is included to reflect the mass of the gear and to automatically create the pitch diameter and tooth root diameter in subsequent drawings. The gear OD has a graphic pattern applied to give the visual appearance of the helical gear teeth. This pattern is similar to that used in Inventor to indicate screw threads.
