This redesigned storage solution addresses three main issues with the original Replicator 2 filament holder. Firstly, it tackles the problem of PLA requiring a dry environment by using a Kmart 17 Quart Omni Box as a sealed container for storing filaments. Secondly, the design allows for easy movement and repositioning of the container during filament changes, eliminating the need to turn the Replicator 2. Thirdly, it simplifies spool removal by utilizing Closet Pro metal closet pole sockets, making it a breeze to swap out spools. The build process involves cutting a 13-inch PVC pipe and mounting it in a Kmart container using Closet Pro sockets. Reels are then placed on the pipe and secured with tie wraps to prevent shifting and interference between spools. Holes are drilled in the lid for PTFE tubing, which holds the filaments in place when not in use. Additionally, foam tape is applied to the lid to create a seal and prevent filament from falling into the container. To further improve functionality, a custom-printed plug is threaded with filament, creating a seal when not in use and preventing filament from falling into the container. The container is positioned at the back of the unit for easy access to the feed tube. Overall, this redesigned storage solution not only keeps filaments dry but also allows for quick and easy spool changes, resulting in a smoother printing process.
