Mutoscopes, most popularly used as peep show viewers, brought moving pictures to the masses in the late 1800's. This version can be 3D printed as two pieces. Just supply 24 still images from your favorite video. The original mutoscopes used images printed on stiff cards that got flipped past a metal tab. With this version, each picture slides into its own frame so you can just print and cut out your photos using any paper.

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/h9HZgFcyGLY"></oembed>

This prints as two pieces (base, carousel), neither requiring supports. Use exactly a 0.4mm line width for printing. I printed this in PLA, but other materials should work OK, too.

You need 24 printed images (64x51mm, or 2.5 x 2 inches) from your favorite video. Practically, you can spin this anywhere from 8 to 24 frames/sec, so space your images accordingly.

Ideally the images should be printed on heavyweight paper or card stock. If you use regular lightweight copy paper, though, you'll need to print the optional cap piece to hold the pictures in place as the frames spin around. I've included a PDF file with the images used in the video above. They are in sequence right-to-left, row-by-row. Make sure to number the backs of the images before cutting them up to keep from mixing them up.

Oh, and the animation is from this walking toy (www.prusaprinters.org/prints/132327-gyroman):

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/8qM3Bao3zJQ"></oembed>
