Hey! Listen! It's Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in hanging ornament form. It's perfect for the rear-view mirror, Christmas tree, or even catching in a bottle in case you find yourself running low on hearts.

Print instructions

If you've got a multi-material printer, you can print navi_inner.stl in your chosen fairy colour, and navi_outer.stl in a clear filament, which gives the finished model an ethereal glowing effect when the light shines through it.

If you want to print it on a single-extruder machine, use navi_onepiece.stl. You just won't get the nifty glow effect from the clear shell.

The print in the cover photo was done on a quad extruder Prusa i3 MK2 MMU as follows:

navi_outer.stl 3D Solutech Natural Clear PLA (extruder 1)

navi_inner.stl 3D Solutech Aqua Blue PLA (extruder 2)

If you're printing with the clear shell, you may need to tweak the settings in your slicer software to get it to look right. I use Slic3r Prusa Edition, and set the navi_outer.stl object to print with 100% infill and 20 perimeters. The high perimeter count ensures the shell around the spherical body is printed in concentric rings rather than using another infill pattern that is visible when the light shines through. For navi_inner.stl I just used the default settings.

Rather than have a mounting ring/tag sticking out of the top of the ornament for hanging, I chose to drill a small hole in the top (sorry, Navi!) and glued in a length of fishing line. If you prefer to avoid the drill/glue procedure, you can use one of the following files to get a version with a mounting ring:

navi_outer_ring.stl replaces navi_outer.stl for multi-material prints

navi_onepiece_ring.stl replaces navi_onepiece.stl for single material prints

If you want to mount it in a bottle, I highly recommend this one from Etsy, which is what I used (and specifically sized the ornament for) in the cover photo:

https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/588558748/2pcs-glass-bottlepudding-bottlesglass

Happy printing!
