This model is an experimental design for dissipating the heat produced by stepper motors for CNC machines. The goal is a 10% reduction in operating temperature per heat sink. The model is design to be cut entirely by a .125in end mill with a .5in cutting depth, which is commonly available tool. The hole at the bottom is to accommodate a 5/16-18 bolt to clamp the device to the motor, it is cut manually. Even this small reduction in heat build up should significantly extend motor life, and since it is cut from a $4 piece of aluminum, it is a good investment. Fillets shown are to represent manual de-burring.
