The extruder uses the higher direct torque of a Nema 23 instead of a Nema 17 with a reduction. The direct drive of the filament prevents a backlash. To reduce the slip of the filament, both drive gears are driven synchronously. A standard optical end stop detects the continuity of the filament at the entrance of the extruder.
