Although the kidney moves into a normal position on orthostasis, the kidney moves back to its orginal site when the individual lays flat. In rare cases, nephroptosis can cause severe abdominal / loin pain on orthostasis which can only be relieved by recumbency, violent epsiodes of renal colic along with symptoms of haematuria, proteniuria, oliguria, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia and chills. Secondary complications can aslo arise such as hydronephrosis, pyelonephritis and hypertension.
