If you are here that means you are a fan of Nerf. So am I... and in particular I am a huge fan of Longshots :-)! In my personal search for a nice stock I ended up realising ‘what I want to have isn’t available yet. So... I’ll have to create it myself.” My inspiration for this design comes from three different angles: ⁃ I love how some skilled people integrate thumbhole stocks from other blasters to the back of their Longshot shell. Or the mod where people add part of another blaster between the standard stock and the grip to turn it into a thumbhole stock. It is just such a cool look in my belief! The downside is having to cut up blasters. ⁃ Another great type of stock in my mind is the adjustable type (made by worker as an example) with the extension rods and a lock to determine the exact length at which you want to use it. Very nice functionality and ergonomics as a result. The Longshot doesn’t have a standard stock attachment point though so the worker stock cant be used. ⁃ Lastly I like the availability of the aftermarket 3D printed solutions out there and the fact that they require no shell cutting or modding of any kind to install them onto the Longshot. My intention was to create a stock that combines the above mentioned values in one product: ‘An adjustable thumbhole stock which requires no shell modifications to install and is readily available to the community’ I also noticed the grip of the Longshot (although comfortable) can be a bit short for adult hands. So I also wanted to create a grip extension integral to the design. The LS grip has a screw port in the very bottom portion. By coïncidence this bottom portion with the screw port in it lends itself perfectly to create a shape around it that can be completely fixated without having to glue to or screw into the shell. The thumbhole portion of the stock adds stability to the otherwise somewhat wobbly grip of the LS. This helps priming the blaster when higher spring loads are involved. To add stability to the entire blaster when priming the extension bars of the stock are exactly ‘in line’ with the priming action. This allows for all the forces to be distributed straight into your shoulder. Lastly I wanted to create a product which looks ‘at home’ on the blaster. As if it could have been part of the original. I am really pleased with the result and hope you guys like it too! Thank you for taking the time to read this! The design, engineering and prototyping of this product has taken quite some time and I want to take this opportunity to thank two people specifically for their help: ⁃ Dennis: who has been my 3D printing guru and remote prototyper from start to finish. His experience with 3D printing is vast and his help with this project has been of inmeasurable value. Without him I could not have made the product fit as perfectly as it does. Dennis is also the creator of Selket (the Metric equivalent of the Caliburn). I will edit a link to his Etsy store later. Edit: His nickname on Etsy and Reddit is: Rraijjar ⁃Jos: My former university workshop chef who took it uppon him to machine the first prototype batch of aluminium extension bars. Thanks guys! Below a summary of the stocks features: ⁃ Adjustable shoulder rest (6 positions 17,5 mm steps) ⁃ Ergonomic grip extension ⁃ Grip stabilizer ⁃ Machined aluminum extension bars 'in line' with priming action (adds control and stability at higher spring loads) ⁃ Slide lock with return spring ⁃ 'No rattle' precision fit to LS shell ⁃ No shell modification needed to install ⁃ Light weight construction ⁃ Doubles as vertical stand for Longshot when shoulder rest is removed ⁃ Designed to match the blasters look and feel Important notice / read before you make: initially this stock was going to be sold by OOD and Foam Focus. Unfortunately they couldn't make it commercially viable without asking too much money for the product. This mainly had to do with print time. Because my intention has always been to make this available to as many players as possible (and not necisarily to gain from it financially) I decided to simply share it with everyone via this method. If you are interested in this product you can now print it yourself or have someone print it for you. Beware though... for this product to function propperly and be complete you need strong rods with very specific detailing in the form of notches and some threaded holes. I added pictures and a technical drawing of these extension rods so you can have a look at what you need. I am sure someone with time and a willingness to do so can build them by hand... perhaps from different material altogther (I used Aluminium). You can also ask a local machineshop to make some for you. I had a batch of 12 (6 sets) produced once and they are all spoken for. Perhaps if demand is really high I can see if OOD and Foam Focus are willing to sell them. Can't make any promisses though. For now you will have to conjur something up yourself. Please think long and hard about how you are going to do this before investing print time and material in the remaing parts for this product. thank you for your consideration :-). Update: Fetteworst on Etsy now sells beautifully machined rods for the stock in both aluminium and brass! He had been doing so for a while but I haven’t gotten around to updating the information here ealier. He can hook you up if interested!
