Nested Platonic Solids

Nested Platonic Solids

thingiverse

A kinetic sculpture-type thing that's based on geometry, with five Platonic Solids being nested inside of one another in a single print. For each shape, the radius of its circumscribed sphere (a sphere that contains the polyhedron and touches each of the polyhedron's vertices) equals the radius of the inscribed sphere (the largest sphere that is contained wholly within the polyhedron) of the next larger one. The base is wood and the stand was a separate print. My settings (I think?): 0.25mm extrusion width, 2.5 loops (loop 1 first), 0.75mm skin thickness, 0.25mm layer thickness, 100% infill. Definitely needs support ... I used a coarse one. Clean-up took some work but turned out well enough. A big thank you goes out to the very nice & helpful folks at the Fort Worth Library for being able to use their printers!
