Nested Shell Spheres (14) with Dodecahedron Pentagon viewports (12)

thingiverse

This design comprises 14 concentric hollow spheres, the outermost being 7 inches in diameter, all 1/8 inch thick with a 1/8 inch spacing between them. The spheres are pierced by pentagonal pyramids, arranged in a dodecahedral (14-sided Platonic solid) pattern, allowing the viewing of all 14 spheres. Included is the gcode file for printing on a Creality Ender 3 Printer and an stl file for slicing to other formats. The result is clean, except for a few places near the top where the overhang is a bit excessive. This could be corrected in the TinkerCAD codeblock by giving the pentagonal pyramids wider bases, which would also consume less filament and time, but I don't plan to do this since the result was satisfactory for my needs. Created as a TinkerCAD codeblock (search for "concentric spheres generator" on the "codeblocks" tab on TinkerCAD.com). **CAUTION:** This design consumes 743 grams (250 meters) of 1.75 mm PLA filament and takes over 5-1/2 days to print!
