INSTRUCTIONS AND FEATURES HERE:

<oembed url="https://youtu.be/04lTMJ2VdTI"></oembed>

I'm sharing with you my latest 3D printed Covid-19 face shield design! After many iterations, and combining some of the best features of popular face shield designs, I think this offers great protection, comfort, and ease of use! As with my first design, no elastic is required and you can 3D print the straps!

The big advantage to 3D printed straps is that it is one less part to source, and they are easier to clean than elastic straps housed in fabric. Nurses and doctors are having to reuse their PPE and cleaning foam/fabric is not easy. It is porous and can harbor bacteria, viruses, and the like. The straps can be printed in PLA or TPU, both files are provided below. TPU is preferred as it is very tough and very flexible, but PLA works just fine!

In addition to the easy to use and easy to clean straps, the new face shield offers more protection from overhead as there is now a top cover! Despite all of the features, the print time should be ~4x faster than my previous design as this is very slim!

I have also included a drill guide for the clear plastic front shield. I would recommend using 0.5mm thick material such as PETG for your face shield. The drill guide has two hole settings to adjust the clearance to your face. Many popular face shields in circulation have too much clearance under the chin. My offset hole design fixes this issue!

Despite the holes being offset, the pattern still fits the PRUSA RC2 masks, so you can use this hole pattern to bring those shields closer to the wearer's face, and this is also compatible with my previous design if you still really like that one.

Lastly, I made the lower chin piece from the PRUSA design more robust. I started to find that the PRUSA model was thin and not very strong for continual use as they tried to optimize for print speed but not durability.

If you have any questions about print settings, please see the print details in the Thingiverse link, or ask me in the comments section.

Design files:
► YOU ARE HERE... or see below
►
https://grabcad.com/library/prusa-covid-19-coronavirus-face-shield-with-integrated-folding-detent-strap-1

Print directions:

► Material: PLA+
► Layer height: 0.3mm
► Support: None.

Assembly:

Just attach the PETG face sheet using the holes (see drill guide file)
The sheet should be 0.5mm thick and the size of an A4 piece of printed paper (8.5"x11"). The drilling and cutting template can be found on my Thingiverse link. The lower chin piece slides onto the clear shield with ease.

If you plan on producing these face shields for others, PLEASE practice good cleanliness and look up guidelines online for what is required. DO NOT CONTAMINATE THE SHIELDS and then hand them out to front line workers!

If you guys have any suggestions for further improvement please let me know!

Original design and good info from Prusa:
►
https://www.prusa3d.com/covid19/

Another model of which I drew some inspiration, but completely remodeled...
