Falk entered the season at the bottom of the depth chart, but illness and injury have given him a path to a starting job. His debut against the Browns in Week 2 was not too bad (20 of 25, 198 yards), but his follow-up against the Patriots two weeks ago was (12 of 22, 98 yards, 1 interception). If the Eagles take away star running back Le’Veon Bell, who is averaging 2.9 yards per carry this season, it will be on Falk’s right arm to win the game. That doesn’t seem likely. The Jets have surrendered 13 sacks in three games this season, and Falk took five sacks against the Patriots in Week 3. The Eagles need to take advantage of that leaky offensive line. They are last in the league with three sacks, and none of the teams ahead of them — Dolphins, Raiders, Redskins, Bengals, Falcons — are good. This defense is predicated on getting after the quarterback with four rushers. This could be a prime opportunity for Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett to break out. In Week 4, the Eagles pounded the ball against a Packers defense that pretty much begged opposing teams to keep the ball on the ground. That led to the best performances of the season from Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders. The Jets, though, are a little bit more stout up the middle. The defense is allowing only 3.6 yards per carry, which ranks sixth in the NFL. So the Eagles should come out firing, even with DeSean Jackson sidelined for yet another week. Alshon Jeffery could be in for a big game against the Jets corners, while Nelson Agholor has the chance to find some room in the underbelly of the Jets defense. The Eagles opened as two-touchdown favorites over the Jets, and on paper, this game should be an easy win. [insert cliche about this being the NFL and all the teams being good.] And if the Eagles get out to a safe lead, their top priority should be making sure their key players get out of the day healthy with three road games in three weeks coming up. It’s a rough stretch. But the Jets have some good, hard-hitting players on their defense, and coordinator Gregg Williams coaches them to be aggressive (and walks a fine line in the process).
