Ordinary rear lens caps for Nikon F Mount lenses hold to the lense's bayonet by FRICTION. This rear lens cap LOCKS to the lens using the camera body's standard lens locking mechanism. ==================================================================== Update 3 January 2021: Matured version (after having printed a series of ever improving prototypes), therefore the OpenSCAD source is now included. No more need to glue: A circular snap-groove/rim allows simple snap-together of the two parts. This snap-together may not work with the supplied .stl file if you choose a layer height above my 0.3 mm. Check my hints under "Misc Notes" below! ==================================================================== Mounting: Part of the cap's bayonet base is shaped as a spring, carrying an M2 screw with a 6 mm long thread which serves as lock pin. A separate orientation mark at the base simplifies the mounting process: Align the mark with the radial lock groove in the lense's bayonet (normally used to lock the lens on the camera bayonet), press the cap down on the lens bayonet and turn it (55 degrees) counterclockwise until the tip of the M2 screw snaps into the lense's radial lock groove. Unmounting: Lift the cap's spring lever 2 mm to unlock the M2 screw from the lense's radial lock groove, turn the cap (55 degrees) clockwise and raise the cap from the lens.
