Pompom Maker for Knitters ===================== Part List: ---------- The complete pompom maker consists of: 2 x maker upper loops 2 x maker lower loops 4 x rod magnets (optional) 2 x hinges 4 x short pieces of 3D printer filament to use as pins Build Instructions: ------------------- 3D print the loops with the largest face down and elephant foot compensation to avoid closing the pin hole. Print the hinge so it looks like a paper clip on the build plate with a brim as the contact area on the build plate is small. After the parts are printed, smooth them off with scrapers and/or sandpaper. Once the hinge fits into the loops and moves smoothly, use short pieces of the same filament used to print the parts as pins locking the hinge into the loops - ensure the two loops are mirror images of each other before gluing. Optionally, glue the magnets into the holes opposite the hinge minding the polarity of the magnets. Usage: ------ See the montage for an illustration of the following steps. Open the two loops by gently pulling them apart then rotating them until fully open. Place the two loops side by side with the angled parts together forming a "V" where the scissors will eventually ride during cutting. Start winding wool around the two loops until the loop centers are close to full. Close the loops and push together until the magnet "locks" them into position. Carefully cut through the wool with one tip of the scissors positioned in the "V" groove. Wrap a single strand of wool in the "V" groove and pull tight which will force the loops apart. Tie off the wool and wrap and tie until satisfied the pompom is bound together. Open the loops and admire :) Customization: ------------------- The included python/cadquery script creates this knitting aid and can be easily customized to create different sizes. See https://cadquerytest.readthedocs.io/en/readthedocs/intro.html for information about cadquery.
