The ID-Cooling IS-47K is a low profile CPU cooler for small form factor PC builds. It consists of a heatsink connected to the CPU block with 6 heatpipes, with a fan mounted in between.

For best thermal results, the fan underneath the heatsink should be flipped to run in intake configuration (blowing down toward the motherboard). The stock fan also isn't the best, so it's super common to replace it with a Noctua fan. However, running in intake causes the fan blades to produce more turbulence noise since they're right up against the heatsink fins.

Adding a small spacer helps to reduce this turbulence slightly, and also gets rid of an unusual high-pitched resonance at high RPMs. The spacer should be printed in a high-temp filament like ABS. I've only tested it with a Noctua fan, so I'm not sure if it's compatible with the stock fan.

Noise comparison:

Without spacer: https://i.imgur.com/z5L9WM5.mp4

With spacer: https://i.imgur.com/zZXpP0L.mp4
Category: Computer
