Non-clogging Sink Strainer

Non-clogging Sink Strainer

myminifactory

This is my version of a non-clogging sink strainer for my kitchen sink. I decided to model and print this after not being too satisfied with my current strainer for the following reasons: Ordinary strainers will clog after too much food or waste material is trapped in the sieve. This is more an unconfirmed observation, but when the water volume is too great, I feel that water cannot flow down through ordinary strainers cleanly. Imagine emptying a bottle and the water chugging out instead of flowing cleanly. This is caused by the water stopping air from entering to replace the vacuum it leaves behind as it tries to exit the bottle. Cleaning out the strainer is a messy job. To fix the problems above, this strainer has: A normal horizontal trap as well as a vertical trap with the sieve running in both directions. This will help the water to flow even though the horizontal trap is full. I have designed the strainer to have a 'snorkel', which should allow air to escape from the waste pipe, thus allowing water to flow cleanly. The snorkel also functions as a handle to spin the strainer - so instead of cleaning it with a brush or by hand, you simply spin the strainer to fling waste off into a bin or plastic bag. I have different versions of the strainer in progress (mainly the size of the sieve), and I will upload those accordingly.  Printing is quite simple, and I would recommend using a material that will take high temperatures easily. This would exclude material such as PLA, for example. I tend to print mine using Taulman T-Glase, at 0.2mm heights, 2 perimeters, 3 top and bottom layers, 50% infill.
