It served as a trainer and ground support attack aircraft for the Army Air Forces, Navy, Marines and other allied forces during World War II. The armed version (AT-6) generally had two 30 caliber machine guns in the nose in front of the cockpit and one or two 30 caliber machine guns in the rearward facing gunner’s seat. These aircraft were sold as surplus to civilian pilots and were used as trainers, aerobatic airplanes for air shows and were restored. Now the AT-6 and T-6 are in the hands of private owners.
