Outcrop on private farmland near Whitton Dean, south of Rothbury, Northumberland. This exposure is one of a number carved areas of outcrop found in close proximity. NADRAP added this carving to ERA in 2008 cross referencing it to ‘North Lordenshaw 6u’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA). However, looking at the photography from both archives, there’s a possibility different stones may have been recorded. NADRAP describe: “A nondescript area of outcrop with two small shallow cups. The larger cup has hint of an arc on north edge. Three edges of panel has been quarried on the south to northwest edges.” Although their plan doesn’t include the arc, there does appear to be a faint trace of one on this model. ERA& BA info: https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=1244 Model created from 5 stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson of NADRAP Team 3 in February 2006. The imagery forms part of the full NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England and Northumberland County Council.
