Nut and Screw Capture Gauge

I tired of reaching for calipers to size the same nut again and again with every new project.

This gauge has four hexagons for each nut type (-0.05, nominal, +0.5, and +0.10mm) arranged in columns.

Each row is for either a locking or standard hex nut.

On the right side are holes for M3, M4 and M5 screws. The nominal dimension is at 12 o'clock with undersized and oversized holes counter clockwise and clockwise respectively. The bottom side has .5mm chamfers to remove any elephant foot first layer distortion.

On the bottom side are reference dimensions for socket screw heads and nut heights.

The nuts in the final product photo illustrate which dimension resulted in a very tight fit requiring a screw from the backside to draw the nut into the hexagon.

Printing

Filament: Prusament PLA

Layer Height: 0.2mm Quality

Nozzle: 0.4mm

Perimeters: 3

Infill: 15% Rectilinear

Supports: None

Color Change: Optional

Note: if different nozzle sizes are used, print one for each nozzle size as the nut fit will change.
