NY Mets Home Run Apple and Shea Stadium

This is a model of the New York Mets' Apple that pops up from a top hat when a player hits a home run. Two different versions of this animatronic statue have been in the outfield of both Shea Stadium and Citi Field. Print Settings Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Infill: 20% Notes: I designed this in pieces to make supports unnecessary. Post-Printing Painting I printed the apple in natural PLA for the translucent nature of the material. I colored the Mets logo with a permanent marker (fine tip) until just the tips of the design were colored blue. I masked off the logo and the bottom rim of the apple to protect the translucent natural PLA. I spray primed and painted the apple with a bright red paint, and painted the leaf with a paint marker. For the stadium, I printed the base and the lid in black because it was what I had, but I primed and painted them with a gloss grey paint. I then colored the outside details with paint markers and added the field detail and crowd coloring with more paint markers. Instructions I designed this model to be assembled a few different ways, as a static model and as an animated model. Static There are 2 different apple models in this set. The full size apple is too large to fit inside the top hat but adds to the cartoony proportions of the hat and stadium. For a static model, I would print the full size apple because it will sit on top of the hat. The base can be printed as just the lid, or without the lip for easier assembly. Animated Apple - The compact apple fits inside the top hat and has a horn on the inside to accept a control wire from a model airplane. I printed the apple with natural filament so it is translucent and would let light shine through. I rubbed a blue, fine point Sharpie on it's flat edge to color just the peaks of the embossed logo blue. I then masked off the bottom and the logo with masking tape, primed and spray painted the apple red.Base - I designed the base to fit the following servo:https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9065Electronics - I recommend using one of these to power the animation:https://www.tindie.com/products/AprilBrother/cactus-micro-arduino-compatible-plus-wifi-esp8266/ More details to follow
