Object of Constant Width

Object of Constant Width

This is a geometric solid, that has an equal diameter, so when rolled between two flat surfaces (see video below) will act as a sphere, even though it is not. The shape is based on a Reuleaux triangle, which has a constant width in 2D. This model is the 3D version, allowing a constant width in 3D. Because of this constant width in 3D, it allows this solid to act like a sphere. This concept is very interesting because you wouldn't think anything except a sphere could roll in this way, but this mathematical property of Reuleaux triangles allows this weird looking shape to work just like a sphere. I have designed this in multiple parts to allow it to print properly, and so that once it is finished and assembled, will work well. The pins to connect the two large pieces (the holes for the pins are on the bottom of the two large pieces) will need to be sanded down a little bit so that you can get a really tight fit between the two large pieces. So a little modification is required, but it is easily done, and works very well together once everything is tight. I hope you like this model!!
