Octopedal Robot

Octopedal Robot

grabcad

This octopedal robot, designed for high school students, excels at traversing rough terrain. Unlike most robots of its kind, which use three servo motors per leg, this device simplifies the design. Each of its eight legs is powered by two motors; one motor controls the right side's four legs while the other governs the left side's legs. The right-side motor rotates a crank that activates lego hydraulic pistons, powering two leg actuators: one propelling the robot forward and another preventing drag on the backstroke. This eight-legged design eliminates the need for expensive, complex stabilization systems. As legged robots advance, students can harness this experience to develop future robots capable of tackling dangerous tasks, such as nuclear disasters or bomb defusal in war zones.
