Oculus Quest Controller Virtual Flightstick Support

thingiverse

Hi, this is my virtual flightstick support for Quest controllers (Quest 1/2) since I felt in love with VTOL VR. It's based on the absolutely awesome grip design from tigerflip: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4248105 ... so download this amazing thing for your prefered hand and print it. The parts for these magnetic solutions or the product itself are hard to get especially here in Austria :-) So I took the ball idea and wanted to use just a stell ball with a threaded bar from a cheap foto stand to mount it below the grip to get it centered and hold in a according hole with help of a funnel. Because I did not receive the foto stand so far and I am impatient when I want to fly I created also the ball for testing purposes. I wanted just know how this feels and if it could work also with printed parts. The answer is.. it works perfectly and its a difference like night and day when flying in VTOL. :-) If you align the virtual stick in the game with the physical loacation quite good it's absolutely easy to find back in the hole with the stick, the funnel will help you :-) The funnel and the base is separated to save a lot of support when printing. I printed it without support.. that was definetely on the limit. There are 2 bases provided, one to fix it somwhere with a strap and one to screw it on something. In both cases you have to glue the funnel on one of the bases. I used CA. In my case I did not use a base because I had to design a unique mount for my chair where I directly glued the funnel on it. So print the funnel, the lower grip and 2 balls. Glue the lower grip on the grip from tigerflip. Take care of the orientation. You should get a straight axis through the whole controller and grip. Glue the 2 balls together and glue it in the hole at the bottom part. (It works also without glue). Either you create your own mount on something for the funnel and glue the funnel on it or you print one of the bases and mount it somewhere with screws or a strap. Anyway I will do a second version of the lower grip and funnel for the steel ball solution when I receive the foto stands and thus the right dimensions. No idea how the friction urge the surfaces over time. But smooth steel in PLA should work for a very long time. Happy flying and let it rain ;-) PS: Now I played a few hours. The precision is much higher, landings are much easier in VTOL. The immersion is better, it feels absolutely right. And SWITCH OFF the vibration function of the controllers in the hardware settings!!!
