InkOwl sells a large-capacity refillable ink cartridge system for the HP OfficeJet 8000 (and other printers using the 940 series cartridges). However, the cartridges need to stick out of the cartridge slots, requiring that the door that normally covers the cartridges be left open. HP tracks the state of the door with a switch at the upper right corner of the ink cartridge bay that is depressed by a flange on the door, and the printer will not operate if the door is open -- or, more accurately, if this switch is not depressed. The instructions that come with the InkOwl cartridges suggest using a folded piece of cardboard to keep this switch pressed. This object is a substitute for the folded cardboard. It is designed with a flange for easy handling; you hold the piece with the flange to the left, slide it to the top right corner of the cartridge bay (if you look in that corner, you'll see a rectangular box with the switch traveller in the middle) and press it in until it fits firmly against the walls of the box (the piece is tapered for a snug fit). This keeps the switch depressed, making the printer think that the door is closed.
