Offset camera tripod mount plate

Offset camera tripod mount plate

This object lets you mount a camera off-center from your tripod or gimbal 1/4" X 20 mounting screw. The object is 6mm tall; the screw for my gimbal sticks out 5mm, so the camera snugs up to the offset plate without the screw interfering. The hole is VERY roughly threaded, and is extremely tight. You may need to heat or plasticize it a bit to fully cut the threads with a mounting screw. The slot is just wide enough to allow a second mounting screw (which you must provide) to slide with slight friction. I have a camera whose center of balance is about 2.5 cm/ one inch to the side of the mounting hole, so it was impossible to balance on my cell-phone type gimbal. This solves the problem. I printed it in ABS with 75% infill, which is probably overkill for a camera that only weighs 250 grams; but I wanted everything solid. I'm sure I'd have had less warpage with PLA. You could increase the height/Z-axis of the object, drill out the hole, and put in a metal threaded insert/rivet nut if you want; I chose to use threads in the ABS and keep the camera a few mm lower. Happy to answer questions, modify if a good suggestion comes along! This object was made in Tinkercad. Edit it online https://www.tinkercad.com/things/i1Ji6MxI5c1
