Oil Filter Removal Tool, No Mess

Description Fits 65.5mm 14 flute oil filters. This is an oil filter removal tool designed to divert and funnel excess oil through the tool and out the bottom. This is helpful for oil filters that are mounted vertically (as mine is). When removing my filter, excess oil would run down the side of the filter and get all over my hand which made it really hard to hold and unscrew the filter (especially if the oil was still hot). This tool has channels in the side which route the excess oil though the inside of the tool and reduces the mess. Some other notable features of this tool: The flow channels provide extra grip for removing the filter. The funnel hole at the bottom fits a 1/2 ratchet wrench just in case the filter is really stuck on there. Note: the wrench needs to be removed after loosening the filter since the wrench will block the drain hole. The tool acts as a general funnel as well. The end of the tool/funnel fits nicely inside the opening of a 1 quart or 1 gallon oil container. This keeps the tool/funnel stable while pouring the old oil back in the containers. Note: the size of the container opening somewhat differs between brands so it might not fit for all oil containers. EDIT: 11/28/2015: After using the removal tool I made some slight changes to the design, the new part is named "oil_filter_drain_V02.STL". This includes changing the funnel slope angle from 40 to 45 degrees. I thickened and angled the bottom of the drain channels because a little oil seeped through at that location. I also changed the ratchet wrench size to a 1/2" so that the funnel drained quicker. I initially hesitated to go with the 1/2" size because it would result in less structure around the wrench opening, but I think it will still be strong enough. EDIT: 11/29/2016: I added a smaller version that should fit 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) filters. Some of the smaller MicroGuard or Wix filters are this size. It should be noted that I haven't tested this size out yet. I just realized this weekend that aftermarket oil filter I picked up was smaller than the OEM ones I was using previously, So it won't get test until the next oil change Print Settings Printer: Custom built "PrintrMatic" Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 - 0.25 Infill: 75-100 Notes: I printed mine in PLA. I didn't have any issues with the low glass temperature of PLA, but my oil wasn't very hot when I used the tool. PETG would probably be a better material choice since it is more durable. Wall thickness are designed around a 0.4mm nozzle. No support is needed to print these, however there is some bridging.
