Old fashioned Oil lamp, holds flame bulb - Steampunk oillamp

<p>A 3D printable old school style oil lamp. Designed to hold a "Flame Bulb".</p> <p>Inspired by Adam Savage's video on Tested.com but couldn't get hold of a similar lamp at right price in a reasonable time frame so designed my own.</p> <p>The lamp was designed in Openscad so can be modified, I apologize but the code is not commented and is not well structured or thought out but is simple enough. I only gave myself a weekend to design, print, assemble and paint this so I was actually printing parts before I had finished the design... made things interesting :-)</p> <p>I aimed to make these parts look like they were cast rather than formed from sheet material given the required thickness of the 3D prints.</p> <p>The lamp was designed to be fairly easy to print but it is in many parts. Most parts you can do without supports and do cleanup but choose the settings that work for you and your printer.</p> <p>I have designed the lamp to print on a 20x20 print bed so it should work for most printers. The largest part to print is the tube itself for height and the back plate.</p> <p>Care should be taken with the lamp tube(the main body) once printed as until the back is glued on it isn't particularly strong. Care should be taken when sanding/painting to avoid cracking it along the layers, you want to make sure you have settings that give you good layer adhesion.</p> <p>The lamp is designed to hold 2mm plastic sheets for the windows. The front could work with 3mm or 4mm sheet if you wanted without modifications, the sides you would need to make the gap slightly bigger. If you need a version for different thickness plastic and don't know how let me know and I can make a part for you. You could probably also use something like acetate sheets if you wanted a lower cost window.</p> <p>The lamp has a "mirror" at the back to reflect the light, for this I used a piece of mirror card that I cut out. I held this in by printing a second of the lamp_glass_holder parts as used for holding the glass at the front. If you don't need/want a mirror then you don't need this.</p> <p>The lamp has hooks for a hanging handle, I used some 2mm(ish) steel wire from a coat hanger.</p> <p>One caveat with the print is I have minor issues with tolerances, I have modified the parts where the prints were too tight but not reprinted everything. The parts still worked I just had to sand bits off of the initial prints I did to get everything to fit. I used a range of settings on the print based on the part and the time constraints I had imposed on myself.</p>
