WORK IN PROGRESS - NOT COMPLETE... and the parts need "fit and finish" My nephew cannot use a normal fishing reel because he is missing a thumb. This design allows him to cast and reel with one hand. The reel will attach to any front half of a fishing pole. This design is an adaptation of elements of: PowerPac by Deepsiks PowerPac Extras by Caramellcube A Better Slip Coupler by CodonExe Print Settings Printer: HICTOP Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 10% Notes: Worm gear: Printed at 0.08mm resolution with a 20% infill. RAFT Clutch: Printed at 0.08mm resolution with a 20% infill. BRIM Rest of the parts: The rest used 0.1mm resolution and 10% infill BRIM How I Designed This The system The internal electronics (motor, battery, charge circuit, switch, charge indicator) were taken from a 4.8V screwdriver. Pressing forward on the switch activates the printed solenoid and releases the reel for casting. Taking your finger off the switch will turn off the magnetic field and the spring will re-engage the spool into the worm gear. Pressing reverse will spin the reel to pull in the line. With a approx 29:1 ratio on the worm gear, this is plenty of power and speed. The clutch is there to keep the reel from getting too tight ( I will be making this adjustable in later posts) The custom solenoid is used to nest into the worm gear housing. Commercial solenoids will work, but it made the reel too big for a child. I am experimenting with 200-250 windings because this should give me the gauss rating to move the reel but not create heat. Electronics are sealed in with CA (superglue) or heat welded together with an old soldering iron to limit moisture. I am still working the handle layout because of my nephews grip strength, but will post as soon as I have it complete with the integrated electronics
