This is the incorrect way to install the eyelet and defeats its purpose. The eyelet should be inserted from the bottom so that the flange sits against the mounting surface. The wide head of the screw then rests against the narrow edge of the eyelet and captivates the rubber grommet without crushing it. The wide flange of the eyelet prevents it from digging into the mounting surface. In the case of inverted servo mounting the whole arrangement is reversed. But the eyelet flange is always placed on the opposite side away from the screw head. If you’re mounting your servos on a hard surface like aluminum or steel, as in robotic applications, this may still be required to keep the eyelet from dropping into the mounting holes. In applications where the servo is mounted against plastic or wood it makes all the difference for proper servo alignment and longevity. Note that the eyelet is sized to give just the right amount of compression to the rubber grommet. If not installed correctly, it is nearly impossible to get correct or consistent compression on the grommets.
