Open Assistive Technology - Bag Holder

Open Assistive Technology - Bag Holder

thingiverse

This is my design for a 3-D printable assistive technology device which allows people with missing digits, reduced digital dexterity, flexibility or grip strength to carry nearly any type of hand held bag. For example, your grocery bags, a gym bag, or a briefcase. UPDATE (10 Feb 2017) - I was finally able to upload the improved model which allows a user to collapse the bag holder upon itself for compact storage and increased utility. Special Note: The models should be printed in such a way as to have the planes of the printed layers parallel to the normal direction of loading (ie. downward). Printing the models with the planes of the printed layers orthogonal to the normal direction of loading may cause the printed parts to be ripped apart between the layers. To use: Unfold the collapsed bag holder Insert the narrow width of your wrist into the top handle labelled "PART 1" Turn your wrist to secure the bag holder on your wrist, preventing it from slipping off. Position the handle(s) of the bag(s) you want to carry in the middle of the lower jaw labelled "PART 3". Positioning the handle(s) of your bag(s) in the middle of the lower jaw will help to evenly distribute the weight of the bag(s) for a more comfortable experience. Future modifications: Apply a fillet to the underside of the top handle. This will make the handle more comfortable when in contact with a person's wrist. Reduce the dimension of the entire system to make it more compact while still being able to carry a moderate to heavy load.
