Open Hardware Stepper Shaft Knob (With An Attitude)
thingiverse
I may have turned up this knob a notch too high, but there you have it nonetheless! Its operation is identical to my preceding Stepper Shaft Key (model #567784), and the OpenSCAD source code has been built upon by my earlier Open Hardware LCD Controller Knob (thing #555370). I firmly believe it looks impressive when combined with Marty Rice's outstanding direct drive extruder (thing #501755), but feel free to utilize it with any direct drive extruder featuring a stepper motor with an accessible D-shaped shaft. You will find the OpenSCAD source included, so you can easily remix it further as needed. Follow the instructions for printing for details. Instructions As illustrated in one of the photographs, this design can be printed upright provided a brim is used. I printed one out using PLA with 20% infill but would advise at least 30% infill to be safer still. Straight from the heatbed, it fit snugly onto the shaft of one of my Chinese NEMA 17 steppers without requiring any adjustments in Cura.
