OpenLock/MagBall Dungeon Tile Bases - Supportless & TrueTiles

I created and released a few sets of #NoWalls Dungeon Tiles that use the OpenLock form factor. During development I wanted to try out the 5mm magnetic balls for easy connections without the OpenLock clips. I came up with a small modification to the OpenLock socket that allows 5mm MagBalls to snap into the socket. The nice thing about the magnetic balls is they can rotate to self-align to the magnet in the neighboring tile! No need to orient them correctly when installing. The clips are still stronger, but nothing beats magnets when dropping tiles on the table during a game!

There are so many various dungeon tiles released on the internet, and I want everyone to be able to use the combo OpenLock/MagBall sockets, so I'm releasing the bases by themselves. Take the dungeon tile design you want, cut off the bottom 6.2mm, and then either kitbash the remainder on top of my base (you can use Blender or 3D Builder), or print them separately and glue them together.

Print instructions

These are designed for 0.2mm layer height. They don't need supports. To get the bridge orientation correct, I add a modifier from layer 5.6 to 5.8 and change the perimeters to 5. Otherwise, PrusaSlicer will choose 0 or 90 degrees for the bridging angle, which won't work well.

When inserting the MagBalls, push them in from the inside. Notice the little groove that helps to align the balls in the correct place. You can push them in before or after you glue the top on. Just don't glue the balls into the pockets. They need to be able to rotate.
