This is an OpenScad library to generate horizontal hinges that can be printed in-place. Latest version is in GitHub feel free to fork. https://github.com/regelatwork/in-place-hinge Examples: For each of these examples we position the cubes where we are placing the hinges separated by tolerance = 0.5. This can be adjusted according to how precise is your printer. Of course you do not need to use two cubes, this can be applied to complex parts. An inset hinge manually made with hingeCorner(). It allows for 90 degrees of bend approx. difference() { union() { translate([0,0.5,0]) cube([60,60,7]); translate([0,-60.5,0]) cube([60,60,7]); } hingeCorner(7/2, 7/2, 60, 6, true, true, 0.5); negativeExtraAngle([0,0,0], [0,0,0], 7, 7/2, 60, 6, 0.5, true, 90); hingeCorner(7/2, 7/2, 60, 6, false, true, 0.5); negativeExtraAngle([0,0,0], [0,0,0], 7, 7/2, 60, 6, 0.5, false, 90); } hingeCorner(7/2, 7/2, 60, 6, true, false, 0.5); hingeCorner(7/2, 7/2, 60, 6, false, false, 0.5); Same as before but with apply*() functions. applyHinges([[0,0,0]], [0], 7/2, 7/2, 60, 6, 0.5) applyExtraAngle([[0,0,0]], [0], 7, 7/2, 60, 6, 0.5, 90) union() { translate([0,0.5,0]) cube([60,60,7]); translate([0,-60.5,0]) cube([60,60,7]); } Half a hinge, 120 degrees of bend approx. difference() { union () { translate([0,-60.5,0]) cube([60,60,7]); } negativeExtraAngle([0,0,0], [0,0,0], 7, 3.5, 60, 5, 0.5, false, 120); hingeCorner(3.5, 3.5, 60, 5, false, true, 0.5); } hingeCorner(7/2, 7/2, 60, 5, false, false, 0.5); A hinge on the corner. This kind of hinge allows 180 degrees of rotation. No need for extra angle. Unlike the previous ones, the boxes do not need to be as long as the hinge. Note: Keep r <= cornerHeight. applyHinges([[0,0,0]], [0], 7/2, 7, 60, 6, 0.5) union() { translate([-5,0.5,0]) cube([70,60,7]); translate([-5,-60.5,0]) cube([70,60,7]); } Half a hinge on the corner. As before, half hinges require manual use of hingeCorner. difference() { union () { translate([-5,-60.5,0]) cube([70,60,7]); } hingeCorner(3.5, 7, 60, 5, false, true, 0.5); } hingeCorner(7/2, 7, 60, 5, false, false, 0.5);
