OpenScad Revoloids version 0.8
thingiverse
Initially, I struggled with generating precise surfaces of revolution. However, a recent update allows for the specification of starting and ending angles in the revolution process (defaulting to 0-360 degrees). This feature is beneficial when creating simple structures that do not intersect at odd angles since it enables you to generate exact surfaces and complete your work. In my ongoing exploration, I experimented with incorporating 'rotate_extrude' for improved performance but discovered that it does not produce 2-manifold structures and cannot create .stl files. As a possible solution, I considered overlapping surfaces instead of calculating precise vertices. Nonetheless, rotating about an arbitrary line is easily achievable in OpenScad, so this may mark the end of these routines' development. The versatility of OpenScad truly amazes me! To continue experimenting, download all the available .scad files and play around with 'test_revoloids.scad.' Create beautiful visualizations, export them as .stl files, print or combine them according to your preferences, and enjoy the results!
