This is an articulated snap-fit assemblable Voltron action figure, made entirely in OpenSCAD.

The entire model, lion heads, and even Voltron's face are all 100% OpenSCAD. Fully assembled, the model is 160mm tall from feet to the top of its head and 90mm from shoulder to shoulder.

I've used Tony Buser's pin connectors v2 and a new hinge/joint system ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33426 ) I designed to create hinges that will rotate through a user specified range of motion. The model can rotate the hands, shoulder, neck, hips, and at the waist. It can also bend at the ankle, knee, and elbow. Also, the wings can also be positioned.

I had a lot of fun designing each of the appendages to match the personality of the Voltron-lions. Besides the lion heads, my favorite feature of this model has got to be the slightly-parametric fake lion legs.

Print instructions

Category: Mechanical Toys Instructions

Download and print each plate (black, blue, green, red, white, and yellow) in their respective colors. I've separated out the head so that it can be printed with a raft and support. (I forgot and printed it upright - which turned out surprisingly well). The entire model should snap together - but several parts have a very tight fit. A light sanding (or just a lot of force) may help.

The fully printed model was made using parts from the v8.0 zip file, with an updated red-plate from v8.1 slightly modified to put the wings properly on the XY plane. I'd recommend downloading the ZIP files to make sure you get all the pieces.

Update: I changed the title to "OpenSCAD Voltron, Defender of the Thingiverse" per Cyclone's comment, because it was just too cool not to.
