In version 2.0 of MeshMixer, I taught myself how to draw a symmetrical stencil on a sphere and extrude it into volume by making two orb sculptures - orb01 and the more detailed orb02. The software automatically generates support structures for printing; however, orb02 had issues with provided supports during printing. Thus, I included a non-support version of orb02, which Makerware successfully supported. Both orbs were printed on my Replicator 1 using orange PLA filament, later spray painted metallic silver and gold. No raft was used; instead, built-in support for orb01 and Makerware support for orb02. Printing settings included extrusion at 220 degrees without HBP, a removable glass bed with blue painters tape, and 270-micron layer height. Each orb had two shells and 10% infill.
