The internal thread has a diameter of 54mm to allow room for gasket. I used the rubber band from grocery store (the ones used to bundle asparagus is the perfect size) which provides a good seal. Increase the internal thread by 1mm should provide a relatively tight lid if you don't want to add rubber band.
