Our Lady of Sorrows

Our Lady of Sorrows

myminifactory

The author of this relief portrait is Gregorio di Lorenzo, assumed to possibly be the mysterious Master of the Marble Madonnas. The name is connected to a sculptor(or a group of sculptors), who was responsible for a stylistically related group of sculptures from Italy between circa 1470 and 1500.  This relief would be a good example of Gregorio's work, as it combines high and low relief, and has the heavily-lidded, down-looking eyes.
