Out of This World Mood Lamp

Working on this design I struggled to find inspiration. After all, so many of us are stuck in quarantine, our experience of the outside world limited to our screens. But in the end it was that feeling of being stuck inside that gave me inspiration. The two parts of my lamp represent the two sides of the experiences shared by so many of us during this unprecedented time. The base of the lamp is an apartment building, a regimented object of straight lines and regular windows that is so often the setting of everyday life right now. The lamp shade is the opposite, something quite literally out of this world. A normal apartment building, with a surreal vision of the imagination suspended above. To me, it is a reminder that the depth of human ingenuity is unlimited and anyone can create anything, no matter the situation.
