During World War II Packard Motor Cars received a license from the British luxury car manufacturer to manufacture it's famed V-12 known as the Merlin 66 in America for use in US warplanes. The result was the Packard V-1650, one of the most well known and most popular aircraft engines used in US aircraft (which isn't to say the Merlin wasn't equally famous). This is the third subassembly, 610136 Magneto Drive and Fittings. It is the geared drive shaft for the two magnetos mounted to the rear and on either side of the crankcase.I have two problems with it. One is that 615730 required a helical gear, so I used solidwork's toolbox to make the gear. It came out well oversized compared to the dims in the part drawing. I wish I had a better grasp on how to make them myself. The second problem is that the nut 603756 didn't have a drawing for it. This is usually the case when a Rolls Royce piece of hardware has been replaced with an Army/Navy standard part. In this case the AN number wasn't spec'd so until I find out the shaft size it's probably the wrong part.previous posts:Packard V-1650-7 Starter Engaging MechanismPackard V-1650-7 Engine Starter MotorLet me know what you think.
